For the past week, I've been listening to the song "Mercy" by Amanda Cook over and over again.
I can't get it out of my ahead. I can't stop playing it in the car, at work, everywhere.
This song gives me so much hope, because it reminds me of the kind of God we serve. A God of mercy. It is truly the mercy of Jesus Christ that got me where I am today. Mercy in the dictionary is defined as: "compassion or forgiveness shown toward someone whom it is within one's power to punish or harm.
I think back to all the mistakes I made before I was following Jesus. Of course I still make mistakes today, but I'm talking about back when I was intentionally sinning against the Lord and doing whatever the heck I wanted without Christ in my life. I made so many stupid choices, some of which I truly wish I could go back and erase...but that is the thing, God has erased my mistakes from His memory. The second I repented, God forgot them. Of course this is hard to fully understand at the human level, which is why scripture is so important to know and understand.
The Psalmist declared, “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us” (Psalm 103:12).
So thank you Jesus, for your mercy. I know I'll be needing it all of my days, but I cannot thank you enough for delivering me from the person I used to be. I was a train-wreck without your mercy. You delight in showing mercy Jesus, it is amazing.
